Questions patients ask Chatsworth Physical Therapy
Plain answers to what patients ask before they book. If yours is not here, call and ask Dr. Ed.
Getting started
Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?
No, you can start without one. California law lets you see a physical therapist for up to 12 visits or 45 days, whichever comes first, and after that we need a referral from your doctor to continue. Medicare patients need a referral from the start, and Insurance and cost has the full rules.
Do you accept Medicare?
Yes, we accept original Medicare; Medicare Advantage plans are not accepted at this time. Medicare patients need a referral from the start. The full picture is on Insurance and cost.
What if I have PPO insurance?
With a PPO plan, we give you a superbill, an itemized receipt that you send to your insurer for reimbursement. Call (818) 749-3205 before your first visit and we will walk you through the cost. Insurance and cost has more.
Can I pay for visits myself, without insurance?
Yes, direct-pay patients are welcome. The first evaluation is $175 and each follow-up visit is $125. We take credit and debit cards, HSA and FSA cards, checks, Zelle and Venmo. Read Insurance and cost for the rest.
Do you treat kids and teenagers?
Yes. Dr. Ed sees school-age children and teenagers, and that includes gymnasts and dancers. A parent stays in the room for every visit, and the details on cost and coverage are on Insurance and cost.
Do you take personal injury cases?
Yes, we accept personal injury liens. Call (818) 749-3205 with questions about your case. Details are on Insurance and cost.
Visits
How long is a visit?
A visit runs about 60 minutes, depending on what you need. The first one is an evaluation: Dr. Ed examines how you move, finds what is causing the pain and explains it in plain terms. See Your first visit for how it goes.
How many visits will I need?
The number depends on your condition and how you respond, so Dr. Ed does not quote one up front. He builds the plan after your first evaluation, then adjusts it at each visit as you progress.
Will I see Dr. Ed at every visit?
Yes. You work with Dr. Ed himself at every visit, from your first evaluation until you are discharged. It is one-on-one the whole way, and you are never handed off.
Are you open on weekends, and what time do you close?
We are open on Saturday and closed on Sunday. From Monday to Saturday we open at 10am and close at 8pm. Ask for an evening or Saturday time when you call or book online.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. Shorts work well for a knee, hip or ankle problem. A tank top or loose shirt works well for the shoulder, neck or back.
What should I bring?
Bring your ID, your insurance card and your doctor's referral if you have one; Medicare patients need a referral from the start. Bring any imaging reports, your surgeon's protocol if you had surgery, and a list of your medications.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. A family member or caregiver is welcome at every visit and can learn your home exercises with you. With a child or teen, a parent stays in the room for the whole visit.
